Why Ghanaians Hate Nigeria: Ghana vs Naija Rivalry

Here, we discuss Why Ghanaians Hate Nigeria and Ghana vs Naija rivalry. It is sad that we Africans keep hating each other. With all due respect, the main reason Why Some Ghanaians Hate Nigeria is because they think Nigerians are criminals (kidnappers, armed robbers, fraudsters, and murderers, etc).

Statistics appear to show that the majority of violent crimes in Accra Ghana are committed by foreign nationals, especially Nigerians. When you don’t follow the laws of any land, you will surely not be given a medal. You will be met with disdain.

Nigerians are behind 60% of Kasoa crimes – one Nigerian chief MCE says ‘Kasoa is a whole country on its own dominated by bad Naija people.  The Chief of the Nigerian community in Kasoa, Nana Kessington Oledo, has revealed that out of every 10 crimes committed in the Kasoa area, his fellow Nigerians are responsible for six.

This bad situation, he said, has been a source of grave concern to the local police commander, who has constantly complained to him to help the situation by getting through to his settler-subjects.

Two Nigerian criminals kidnapped and murdered 4 Ghanaian young girls from Takoradi

In March 2021, two Nigerian criminals Samuel Udoetuk Wills and John Oji were found guilty of kidnapping and killing the four young Takoradi girls. Samuel Udeotuk Wills and John Oji were charged for kidnapping and murder after the bodies of Ruth Abakah, 19, Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, Ruth Love Quayson,18 and Priscilla Koranchie, 15, were discovered in their apartment following months of a national search for the victims.

The Takoradi missing girls murder case exacerbated the amount of hatred Ghanaians develop towards Nigerians.

In reality, Ghanaians don’t hate all Naija guys. They only hate bad practices and bad behavior. If a Nigerian stays peacefully in Ghana without any bad practice in the country, they shall be treated nicely.

Despite the ups and downs between Ghana vs Naija, these two countries still share a strong bond culturally, economically, and socially.

Nigerians are not the only foreigners in Ghana, there are so many foreigners living and working in Ghana for decades and they are living peacefully. That is because they respect the laws of the country. So, Nigerians must always obey GH laws.

Bad nuts are everywhere. but let’s hope things change in our continent.

Nigeria’s big problem is that most of the citizens are not law-abiding; such bad behavior does not exist in many other African countries like Rwanda. All citizens have 99% responsibility to be good citizens. When you go to Dubai in UAE, some of the banks and offices do not allow Nigeria nationals to enter, All because of some terrible Yahoo boy characters like Ray Hushpuppi.

One problem is that if a Nigerian commits crime in another country, other Nigerians quickly come to defend the criminal or justify the criminal behavior. It is always shocking. Other countries don’t do that. Stop justifying bad behavior period. There is no excuse for evil, no matter what.

It is very important that we love each other and take things easy and do things the right way and live very nicely.

Reason Why Ghanaians and South Africans Hate Nigeria

South Africans understand why most Nigerians have a hard time being easily accepted in many African countries. Ghanaians are easily accepted globally, but Nigerians are viewed with suspicions and receive hostility, maybe this hatred has its beginning and I see why. I have seen this hostility and suspicions against Nigerians in my county and in Kenya too.

A lot of Americans and Ghanaians have this negative attitude towards Nigerians; in fact, most parts of the world view anyone with a Nigerian passport with great suspicion and hostility. Ghana is growing and improving peacefully. On the other hand, Nigeria is synonymous with corruption, and the country suffers great insecurities masterminded by Boko Haram militants.

Can a Nigerian get a job in Ghana?

Of course, Nigerians do get good jobs in Ghana However, no foreigner shall employ or accept employment unless that person obtains a work permit or immigrant quota. A work permit or Immigrant quota is an authorization granted to an employer or employee to engage in lawful and gainful employment in Ghana.

Why did Ghana leave Nigeria?

Here is Why Nigerians say Ghana must go. Due to the discovery of crude oil in Nigeria, the economy was booming after sometime so it attracted a lot of foreigners into the country with Ghanaians being the majority.

The “Ghana must go” order was an alleged response to the religious disturbances that had engulfed parts of Nigeria in the early 1980s (the Kano Riots). Most of the immigrants were West Africans and mainly Ghanaian citizens. Over 2 million men, women and children were affected, including over 1 million Ghanaians and other West Africans.

Most Ghanaians who migrated were literate. They worked in corporate organizations including the oil fields, a lot became English teachers since they could speak and express themselves eloquently and some became cobblers etc. By the way, this is one of the ways GH brought Hi-Life to Naija with the likes of E T Mensah and the Cape Coast Sugar Babes touring West Africa. These were the people Fela Kuti grew up listening to.

Back to the main subject, Ghanaians working in almost every sector became a daily thing.

Unhappy Nigerians became bitter and kept complaining until eventually in the early 1983, Shehu Shagari initiated the Ghana must go.

Ghanaians got there in the 1970s and Ghana must go was initiated around 1983. Not all Ghanaians came back, almost 90 percent came back and some stayed behind and had been part of Nigerians since then. Same way with when Nigerians came to Ghana in the 1950s. Some stayed, and today a perfect example is the Hausa people within Ghana. Hausas are not part of the tribes in Ghana but today they’re all Ghanaians.

A little icing for the cake, A bloodless coup in August 1985 brought Major General Ibrahim Babangida to power in Nigeria, and Rawlings, the leader of Ghana at the time, took advantage of the change of administration to pay an official visit. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues focusing on peace and prosperity within West Africa, bilateral trade, and the transition to democracy in both countries. In early January 1989, Babangida reciprocated with an official visit to Ghana, which the PNDC hailed as a watershed in Ghana–Nigeria relations. There’ll always be a bond and a link between these two countries.

Ghanaians want their leaders to fix the country by fighting corruption and stopping crime

Why Ghana said Nigeria must go

Nigerians were expelled from Ghana because they were becoming more than the Ghanaian population, which no country will allow – and unfortunately, it may happen again. Unless the government decides to allow only a particular number to stay and not have Nigerians exceed that number because obviously a nation of 31 million people cannot easily accommodate millions of illegal immigrants.

Why Ghanaians Hate Nigeria: Does Ghana owe Nigeria?

Ghana vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revealed that the reason behind Ghana’s current power crisis (dumsor) is the government’s failure to settle a $100 million debt owed the Nigerian Gas Company.

Are Ghana and Nigeria rivals?

Yea, Ghana and Nigeria are rivals in terms of sports and showbiz (entertainmen industry). The Ghana vs Nigeria football rivalry is a peaceful sports rivalry that exists between the national football teams of Ghana and Nigeria, as well as their respective fan-bases.

How many Nigerians are in Ghana tertiary institutions?

According to the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana, there are about 55,000 Nigerian students in tertiary institutions in Ghana such as KNUST, University of Ghana, and UDS.

We all wish Nigeria all the best and sincerely hope Boko Haram will allow peace to prevail. One LOve. Despite all the media nonsense about why Ghana hates Nigera, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo live in happier times at an Ecowas meetings.
