Through an Instagram post, Mr. Rollas disclosed that Mr. Ibu, who had been battling health issues for several months, succumbed to cardiac arrest. The actor, aged 62, breathed his last on Saturday, March 2.
The announcement of Mr. Ibu’s demise came amidst a sorrowful period for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, compounded by the loss of Kate Henshaw’s mother on the same day. Mr. Rollas conveyed the tragic news, quoting Mr. Don Single Nwuzor, Mr. Ibu’s manager of 24 years, who confirmed the fatal cardiac arrest.

Further insights into Mr. Ibu’s health saga were unveiled by his family on December 17, 2023. They clarified that his inability to undergo overseas treatment stemmed from doctors’ assessment deeming him “Not Fit To Fly.” The underlying health condition, contrary to initial speculation of diabetes, involved chronic blood clotting in his leg’s blood vessels, posing grave risks to his life.
Following his discharge from the hospital in January, Mr. Ibu was visited by fellow Nollywood actor Ken Erics, signifying his gradual recovery journey. Hailing from Enugu, the renowned actor had left an indelible mark in the Nigerian film industry, having appeared in over 200 Nollywood productions.

His post made some references to President Akufo-Addo’s marriage to First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo. After pointing out that Mr Akufo-Addo married Rebecca following the death of her husband, who happened to be Akufo-Addo’s friend, Bongo Ideas surmised that, the first gentleman of Ghana married Rebecca as a trophy wife, since she has not had any children for the Mr Akufo-Addo.
Although Bongo’s sister confirmed that he did not sustain physical harm, concerns lingered regarding the possibility of him experiencing torture, which may have led to a noticeable change in his demeanor.
In essence, Medikal’s stance underscores the importance of upholding human rights and treating individuals with decency and fairness, regardless of their past behavior.
